Registration for Mentored Practical Experience (MPE)

  2. Complete the MPE Candidate Orientation: All candidates wanting to register for MPE, must first complete the MPE Candidate Orientation. The Orientation is available on My Capability Learn
  3. Access the MPE Tracker: Within 1 business day of completing your ‘MPE Candidate Orientation’ you will be able to access the MPE Tracker. The MPE Tracker is available on My Capability Program
  4. Register for MPE

Once you have accessed the MPE Tracker, you can register for MPE. As part of the registration process you will:

    • Organisation: Su 7 co Chartered Accountants Limited
  • review your employment history,
  • enter your MPE start date and
  • record any prior work experience.

Your registration will then be sent to us for approval. Once approved and you have successfully registered for MPE, you can begin your MPE journey.

Preparation of your Professional Development Plan

At the start of your MPE journey, work with your mentor to prepare your Professional Development Plan for the next 12 months. Your professional development plan will guide you through your MPE journey. It will ensure you and your mentor have considered CAANZ’s MPE requirements and agreed how you will achieve the required competencies. The Professional Development Plan also sets goals and objectives and gives indicative timeframes for these to be met. Following your first Professional Development Plan, you will prepare a Professional Development Plan every 12 months until MPE completion.

Regularly record your competency progress

In MPE, you will regularly record your progress and write statements to demonstrate how you have met technical and professional competencies. There are no rules around how to write statements, however the best practice is for you to provide context and details about:

  • activities and tasks you have undertaken to meet the competency
  • when you have undertaken the activity or task
  • if relevant, who assisted you or supported you in completing the activity or task (the statement needs to be anonymised)
  • your role in the activity or task
  • what you have learned from the activity or task

You can also reflect on your progress in each competency and think about how you could improve moving forward. Remember, you need to be cautious about sharing personal information, and so you must ensure you do not reveal any identifiable personal, private or confidential information in the statements.

You and your mentor must meet every six months to review your competency progress and celebrate your achievements. You should update your competency progress regularly and take this with you to your six-month check-in with your mentor. This record will provide the basis for monitoring your progress. You should also note any issues or sections of your work that have been challenging or have raised specific ethical or professional issues. This will help you and your mentor focus on key areas of your professional development. When you and your mentor celebrate your achievements, you should consider:

  • experience you have achieved since the previous meeting
  • areas of experience you had planned to achieve but did not complete
  • what would have helped you to gain that experience
  • areas of work in which you have achieved the appropriate level of competence
  • areas that need further development before you achieve an appropriate standard

Review your performance at the end of each year with your mentor

At the end of each yearly MPE cycle you are required to meet with your mentor to review your progress (i.e. this is the 2nd six-monthly meeting each year).

Your mentor will review your competency progress (as part of the check-in component), and will also encourage you to look back and reflect on your progress, accomplishments, achievements and challenges over the last 12 months. This is a key activity in your reflective learning experience. Evaluate where you are now, compared to your original plan and goals, and what progress you have made. Think about specific experiences and situations and what you can learn from them.

As part of your annual review, you will also need to document the number of days leave you have taken over the last 12 months. This is an important requirement as it allows us to calculate the number of days worked as part of your MPE time-period requirement. Your mentor will sign off the number of days leave taken, so therefore ensure you provide your mentor with information such as a leave report to support your leave days recorded.

To become an ACCA member, you must demonstrate relevant skills and experience within a real work environment. This is what the practical experience requirement (PER) is all about. You’ll need to complete 36 months supervised experience in a relevant role(s) and demonstrate that you have gained a range of skills by achieving nine performance objectives (five Essentials and four Technical). You’ll use the online MyExperience tool, which is accessed though myACCA, to record your PER and have your experience signed off by a practical experience supervisor.

Recording your experiences on MyExperience is a streamlined process.  As an ACCA employee, you benefit from the Approved Employer status, which simplifies the process of meeting the practical experience requirements. Begin by logging into your MyACCA account and navigating to the MyExperience section. Here, you will find a user-friendly interface that guides you through the process of recording your experiences. Ensure that you accurately detail your roles, responsibilities, and the skills you have developed in each position. This documentation is crucial for demonstrating your competency and progress in line with ACCA's performance objectives.

When recording your experiences, focus on providing clear and concise descriptions of your tasks and achievements. Highlight specific projects or challenges you have encountered and how you addressed them, showcasing your problem-solving abilities and professional growth. It is also important to reflect on the skills you have acquired and how they align with ACCA's competency framework. Regularly updating your records ensures that your experiences are fresh in your mind and accurately captured. Additionally, take advantage of the support and resources offered by your ACCA Approved Employer, such as mentorship and feedback, to enhance your learning journey. By diligently maintaining your MyExperience records, you are taking proactive steps towards achieving your ACCA qualification and advancing your career.
